MEMORANDUM

TO: PROFESSOR ?????

FROM: MICHAEL JOHN BUCKHOFF, AMERICAN CULTURE AND LANGUAGE PROGRAM (ACLP) INSTRUCTOR

DATE: APRIL 4

SUBJECT: INTERNSHIP FOR ENGLISH 662--LINDA

This is to confirm that Linda Abidin will be doing her English 662 internship in one of my classes in the ACLP. At present, we have agreed that she will intern in the following class:

Class                     Level             Hours            Days

TOEFL                     3             1200-1350       TTH PL 39

During this class, I am planning to have Linda develop techniques and strategies of teaching ESL in several different ways:

1). Working with students as an assistant teacher with the goal of acting as a facilitator and a guide in second language acquisition, Linda will help ensure that all students are participants in every class and that no students dominates or is uninvolved.

2). Linda will teach at least one class on a TOEFL topic of her choice (listening comprehension, structure and written expression, or vocabulary and reading comprehension). The lesson plan will be submitted to me in advance in order to insure appropriate topic choice. She also will assign and grade homework.

3). I plan to have at least three conferences with Linda to help her understand the goals of teaching an ESL TOEFL class in the ACLP. During these conferences, I will explain the Instructor’s Handbook from the ACLP at CSUSB as it applies to the teaching of the Level three TOEFL class.

I expect Linda to attend Tuesday and Thursday classes. She may choose not to come to class every second Thursday as I will administer a TOEFL practice test during the entire class.

Linda
