16 mile Calico Trail Run
John Williams and Michael
Buckhoff went on a 16 mile trail run. The purpose of the run was
to explore Calico Ghost Town and the trails in the surrounding area.
Calico Ghost Town

The Trails Outside of Calico Ghost Town
Snaking through a canyon
with old abandoned mine shafts and calico-colored sand and rock, the
first part of the trail took us through a ridge of mountains, on one of
which is painted in white "Calico," easily visible from
I-15.

As we trekked farther, we caught sight of a far-away mountain with
a cell phone tower atop its peak. Our goal was to summit this peak
and then come back to Calico. To put it mildly, reaching
this peak proved to be extraordinarily exhausting due to its lack of
switchbacks. On some parts of the steep trail, we were forced to
walk; other times, we, desperately trying to regain oxygen and
muscle strength, were forced to stop and rest. Surprisingly,
even Siberian Huskies, Lucky and Lady, exhausted themselves.
Nonetheless, we reached the summit.
